My teaching approach :
I teach what you want to learn. After the basics of guitar, you tell me what songs/style you want to focus on and we do exactly that. I recommend starting off with an acoustic guitar because the strings are tighter and once you've gotten used to it electric guitar will be a breeze. I've got 17 years experience with guitar, recording, song-writing, singing and performing. I have recorded 4 professional full length albums and 2 personally recorded full length records. I have also spent 6 years touring the country with acts such as Ozzfest, Godsmack, Incubus, Pantera, Sevendust, Staind, ect.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
A guitar lesson always starts with tuning the guitar. Sometimes with a tuner and other times by ear. We then would run through the song/exercise you've been working on and see how it's coming along. I will then give advice on your technique and how you can improve your playing ability. Guitarists with no instruction will make things more difficult then they need to be. I will show you correct form to make you feel much more comfortable.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
The first lesson I explain what everything is called on the guitar and it's function. I will ask if you've ever played guitar and what goals you have for yourself. Then I will show how you hold a pick and work on your form plucking the strings, then I teach you guitar tablature (reading music) and we do a couple exercises together. If those go smoothly, I will introduce guitar chords and show the proper form to make them sound smooth.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
Someone that is excited to learn and has time to practice. I teach all age groups and move at your pace.
