My teaching approach :
I teach all ages and skill levels. I also cater to Special Needs Students. I can teach all different styles of music. In a typical lesson, we will work on chords, scales, theory, and we always save plenty of time to work on songs that the student has brought or enjoys. Lessons have to be fun as well as educational. I was a music major in college, attending Butler County Community College and then went to KSU to further my studies in Music Education.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
Warm ups, including scales and chord work. Briefly go over what we worked on the previous week and see how far we got... and then go from there. I am a huge encourager and will never "scold" my students for not getting as much done as he or she could have that week... I understand that people have lots going on! I also provide my students with a work book that I have created for them to practice on their own during the week.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
We have fun by playing some basic songs on 1 or 2 strings, as well as starting to learn some basic chords. And we just get to know each other and find out what kind of music they like and want to pursue.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
All Ages, All Skill Levels, and I love working with kids or adults with Special Needs. I have had students with severe ADD and Autisim. I work a bit differently with these students, and we have so much fun!
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
As summer is coming up, my schedule is quite open. I am willing to work with my students to find the best time that will work for all of us.
My influences are:
I am a folk guitarist by heart. I play in a band where we do a lot of Crosby Stills Nash and Young and other bands with harmonies. I also play (but not very well) the piano, mandolin, bass and trumpet.
