My teaching approach :
Since music has been my passion, I have been performing and teaching for many years. I have performed in venues as small as pubs to as large as concert halls. My musical training actually started as a clarinet player in grade school and progressed to stringed instruments. I found the banjo to be an intriguing instrument and have developed my interest in the five string into both an avocation and a business. I have taught individuals as well as groups in learning how to play the banjo. Currently, I am teaching night classes as well as private lessons. One of my most popular classes is "Performing Bluegrass and Accompanying Other Musicians" Since many of my students keep coming back for more lessons, I believe my teaching methods are a success. I like to teach not only technique but music theory to formulate a full understanding of the instrument. Since I am also a guitar and mandolin player, I also teach various classes and private lesson to students in guitar and mandolin. Through the development of my own instructional materials for the students of the five string banjo, guitar and the mandolin, I am able to share my ideas with individuals who do not conveniently live in the area. Please feel free to e-mail me if I can be of asstance or if you would like to simply communicate about the instrument or your musical insterests. I always enjoy meeting other banjo players and musicians. If you are interested in acquiring my instructional materials, please contact me for further information. My books on CD currently include: Learning the Five String Banjo, Performing Bluegrass and Accompanying Other Musicians (Volume I and II), Basic Guitar Concepts, Guitar For Children, and Introduction to Mandolin. More volumes, which include charts, text, sound, and picture files will be available soon.
