My teaching approach :
My approach is really a very simple one. I start out the first lesson with the in person introduction, ask what your personal goals are, then explain what it is going to take to even come close to achieving it, after that we move into laying the groundwork with the actual lessons. I have been teaching for over 13 years. I strive to always use the best gear possible. I have 2 steal string acoustic guitars, 1 nylon string guitar and 2 electric guitars at present. I also have 2 combo amps which are both 212 and multiple guitar effects pedals.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
I am generally one for breaking the Ice so to speak, so that the student will feel comfortable. Then I might either ease them into using proper hand positioning, then an arpeggio or chord if appropriate.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
I can usually get a pretty decent idea of someone's skill level within the first 5 to 10 minute of speaking with them or hearing and seeing them play. As for what is taught, I may or may not start out with arpeggios of chords, it really depend. Because arpeggios, chords and scales do exist in music, I include them as part of the overall lesson structure.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
I guess my ideal student would be one who is excited about music, comes to all lessons with an open mind and a real willingness to learn.
