My teaching approach :
If you're a beginner, I like to find out your interests initially so we can make short term and long term goals and start with the essentials. If you play already, we'll talk about areas of your playing whether it be technique, song building, theory, and so on. From there, we will tackle those areas.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
With beginners we will start with posture and learning the staff. From there we will decide which series of method books might work for us. With anyone above a beginner level our lesson time could be varied depending if there is a piece of music you'd like to work on or techniques you would like to learn.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
First thing is first, we have to set goals. What are we wanting to accomplish as (potential) guitar players? What influenced you to pick up the guitar? We'll take these ideas and build a lesson plan from there. With any kind of current ability in place, we'll contrast it with their influences and correct it if need be.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
My ideal guitar student is one that comes prepared is is organized. Above all else, the student really wants to learn and understand the instrument and have FUN with it. I hate it when the guitar becomes a chore, so I'm here to help you make this a fun hobby.
