My teaching approach :

My teaching approach is a balance between playing real music you love and understanding that music. I encourage you to bring in recordings you already know and love, and I'll walk you through how to play it and why it all works and sounds the way it does.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following

I divide my lessons into three parts: review, repertoire, and theory. In the review section, we go over what you've been practicing in the last week. Then we'll work on learning a piece of music, either a new song or an ongoing project. My theory teaching is always aimed at an understanding of the specific music we're working with.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following

The first thing I want to do is make you comfortable. We'll talk about your experience and goals, and we'll play a little bit, even if it's just making noise. I also need to get a sense of how you learn, so I'll introduce some concepts and music to see which learning methods will work best.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following

The ideal student practices. That's all there is to it. Take what your teacher gives you, process it, rework it, interpret it in your own way, and apply it.
