I like to find out where my students are at and what they are really interested in learning and then tailor their lessons to that. I have performed as a solo artist as well as with bands. I have a B.A. in Music Performance and Composition and have studied with Michael Hedges and Christopher Parkening. I have played numerous venues in New England including First Night Boston. I have been teaching for nearly 30 years in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
A guitar lesson with me generally begins with reviewing what we covered in the previous lesson to make sure the student has understood the material and then moving on to new material. In the case of a classical lesson it might start with a review of exercises and scales and then move to working on a piece of music, in the case of rock or fingerstyle guitar the lesson might focus on techniques and the implementation of those techniques in a piece.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
I have the student play for me to get a feel for where they are at and what styles of music they like and then discuss what goals they have. I will usually start them off with some exercises to get working on finger strength and independence.
