My teaching approach :

Teaching method is start with the basics to build a foundation for whatever style the student prefers. I have done shows with Gordon Lightfoot, Led Leplin, John Hartford, Jose Feliciano, plus many more. I fingerpick the 12 and 6 string guitars and also play the 5 string banjo. I have a digital recording system. I will teach anyone that is willing to learn everything I know. I have been called one of the best 12 string guitar players in the country.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following

First question is what is the student trying to accomplish. Then together we form a game plan on how to get them there. We start at the beginning which is to learn 3 chords in a key. Student is to learn how to form those chords without looking at their hands and move from chord to chord without difficulty. Next, we add another key that will use one or more of the chords already learned and so on. Then we get into the relative minors.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following

A little was described above. If a student already plays, I would have them play a few tunes. I would then assess their level. I have a great ear and a great eye for talent.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following

One who has a burning desire to learn the guitar and loves music. One that is willing to put in the practice time necessary to achieve the level they desire. One that wants to know the physics of the instrument as well as playing it. Especially like ones that want to learn how to really play a 12 string guitar.

Fee Schedule :

Single lessons are $35 an hour. We can work out package deals, i.e. $100 for 4 lessons. I also do accoustic guitar repair. That is quoted by the job.

My cancellation/booking policy :

If someone cancells without notice, I will send them a bill and unless there's a damn good reason, they just quit being a student. The more notice the better. I understand stuff happens.
