My teaching approach :
Professional musician and teacher since 1965, music degree from Mount Aloysius college, additional courses from other colleges. Currently a full-time tenured professor at San Diego Community College District. My teaching approach is a one-on-one solution to a particular problem or area of interest. I do not teach "lessons," but rather, I work on an individual basis with a musician, entertainer or a band by appointment only. If you are not sure how I can help your music career, contact me and we can discuss your needs and my recomendations.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
With guitar players, I discover your needs and then show you the solution, teach you the techniques, and recommend a practice routine or additional study to impliment the new technique. I work with bands, singers and entertainers as an "Artist Development" consultant. I show you how to "create moments" with your audience rather than just playing songs, how to control the stage, be more confident, get more fans and sell more product.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
I only accept advance students or working professionals with specific problems or needs, and meet with them by appointment only on an "as needed" basis rather that setting a lesson for every week. I am the one you go to when your guitar teacher is unable to help!
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
A guitarist or entertainer that wants to improve and is willing to do what is necessary to accomplish this rather than expecting immediate results. Most students I work with are able to tell me specifically what they need me to show them, then know the problem, but not the solution. Students look to me for answers because of my experience and ability to come up with a solution and show it to you clearly so that everything makes sense.
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
Any day or time is available - call or email me for an appointment.
My influences are:
Les Paul, Johnny Smith, Chet Atkins, Steve Cropper, Eric Clapton, Al Caiola, Hank Garland, Bob Dylan, Beatles, Grateful Dead, Beachboys, Larry Carlton, BB King, Roy Buchanan, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, Jeff Baxter, Terry Kath (Chicago), Steve Howe (Yes), Scottie Moore (Elvis), Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Duane Eddy, Tommy Tedesco, Roy Clark, Paul Johnson, the Shadows, the Ventures, Raul Reynoso.
Fee Schedule :
A one-time appointment for a "lesson" is usually $75-$150. If you need more than one appointment, the hourly rate will be discounted as more hours are added. Artist Development sessions with a singer, entertainer or a band are priced according to a pre-approved plan that we work out through an interview and discussion, and can range from $150 for a "quick fix" to $1000 or more for advanced needs.
My cancellation/booking policy :
A 50% deposit is required. No refunds for cancelations, however, an appointment may be reschudled with a 48 hour notice with no penalties, or the deposit can be reapplied to a different service.
Which methods of payment are accepted?
Cash, Checks, Money Orders, Paypal
I have been teaching guitar for:
