My teaching approach :
Playing guitar is fun. I am very patient, encouraging, soft spoken, and supportive. I customize each lesson according to the student's needs. I use every possible resource I can to help the student learn. I teach using color theory for music notation, use both beginner and intermediate books to teach the basics then expand to include TAB from songs that the student really wants to learn. Both chords and melody are taught simultaneosly using diagrams and vocal accompanyment.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
With a beginner I begin with the high E string and show them the first 3 notes (E-F-G). Then find easy songs with melodies that they can play right away. If they already know the notes but want to learn a specific song I usually burn the song on CD and immediately show them the chords. Before they know it they can play a song they really want to learn. Simple!
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
Iask him/her what kind of music they like? Who inspired them to want to pick up the guitar. What songs would they like to learn? How long have they played guitar? What formal music training have they had? What other instruments have they tried to play?
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
