My teaching approach :
I am primarily a classical player, though I do teach many other styles, including beginning guitar. During my lessons, I concentrate on healthy technique, musicianship, note-reading skills, theory, scales, arpeggios, and performance skills. Though guitar playing is serious business, I try to make it a fun experience for my students. I have been playing the guitar for over 30 years and teaching for over 15. I am also a composer and have recorded 2 CDs of my own works. In 2011, I earned a doctorate in classical guitar performance from the Eastman School of Music.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
A typical lesson is a bit hard to accurately describe as each one is custom fit for the particular student's needs at that particular time. However, musical rudiments and ergonomic technique are always reinforced.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
If the new student is a complete beginner, I usually use the lesson time for the two of us to get to know each other. I ask questions about the student's background and desires as I formulate an effective and individual lesson plan. We also spend time going over a material list, the parts of the guitar, and I might even tell one of my really bad jokes.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
Since each person is completely unique, it's tricky to describe my ideal student. I suppose, though, to be successful on any instrument you must have a sincere desire to learn and be willing to commit to regular practice. Learning something like the guitar does not happen over night. To paraphrase Andres Segovia, the great Spanish guitarist, "Patience can be bitter, but its fruit is sweet."
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

These lessons offer more flexibility with scheduling.
