My teaching approach :

Learning music should be approached the same way you approach learning to read and write. Memorizing a bunch of chords and scales without understanding the underlying structure is like learning to read without the use of phonetics. Its possible but very inefficient. My book "Understanding Music Through the Guitar" is based on this principle.
