My teaching approach :

Goal-Centered Progression is how I teach my students. The student sets their own large/general goals of what they would like to be able to do and then the student and I collaborate to set progressive goals to reach those points. I believe in the power of practice and that the best way to facilitate practice is for the student to know that what they are practicing is building to exactly what they want in the end result. I teach electric styles with a Gibson Flying V and acoustic styles with a true fender acoustic.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following

A typical guitar lesson is 30 minutes long and taught in the home of the student. The first 10 minutes are a review of the practice material the student was working on. The next 10 minutes are spent on a new lesson, skill, or song (depending on the goal for that day). The final 10 minutes are spent practicing the new skill/song and deciding on the students practice material until the next class.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following

The first lesson is free and generally longer than other lessons (no additional charge) so the student's playing level can be assessed and the overall goals set to guide the subsequent lessons. I will keep a personalized teaching record of each student with their goals, practice assignments, and lesson completion. The student will have an abbreviated card so they can remember their assignment and track their progress.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following

My ideal student is enthusiastic about learning guitar because it is a great instrument and the funnest to learn. He/she practices daily for at least 15 minutes.
