My teaching approach :
I have 35 years experience. I now play with a jazz/fusion group in Orlando and in a 1980's pop band. My main instrument is electric bass, however, I'm also a competent rhythm guitar-player. I have a patient, supportive, a teaching style, based on 15 years of teaching experience in music and also as a full-time college teacher. I can show you how to read music, interpret chords, play jazz, rock, blues, or pop, and learn to be effective in any style
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
I like to work from Hal Leonard books, with songs of interest to the student included. I will also accompany bass students on the guitar so they can understand how to play with other musicians, and hear how the bass fits with other instruments. With guitar/ukelele players, I will accompany them on bass.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
I usually diagnose what you need to learn next by asking you to play something your are proud of, but make sure you know I'm not judging you or auditionin you -- I'm simply getting a feel for where they're at with the instrument. We start learning from there.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
The ideal student is a beginning bass, rythmn guitar, or ukelele/soprano guitar player. I can string up a ukelele as a soprano guitar, or a ukelele, or a bass given some new strings on the market which make bass accessible to young children. Children as young as 5 years of age can learn to play ukelele or bass
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
I can be flexible, but evenings and weekends work fine.
My influences are:
Bass: Marcus Miller, Jaco Pastorius, James Jamerson. Mark Egan. Guitar -- Pat Metheny, David Gilmour.
Fee Schedule :
You pay for a month of lessons, which are $14 to $19 per half hour. The rate depends on the cancellation policy you select, below.
My cancellation/booking policy :
For the $14 per hour fee, if you can't make a lesson, we can try to reschedule that week. If you can't reschedule, you forfeit the $14 for that lesson. If you pay the $19/hour fee, you can cancel at the last minute and you are not charged for the lesson. I do this only because it can be hard on my personal schedule to make myself available and then not have a lesson at the last minute.
Which methods of payment are accepted?
Cash
I have been teaching guitar for:
15 Year(s)
