My teaching approach :
My approach to teaching comes down to whatever is right for the student. Each student, from beginner to pro will have their strengths and weaknesses. My job is to help you improve as a musician. Each student also has different goals. I will help you reach them. I started with classical piano at age 6, sax at 11, guitar at 13 and double bass at 16. I graduated from Musician's Institute (GIT) in 1989 and have played around the Morris County for several bands and recorded for other artists. I have a small home studio that I use to record my own material as well. I do still perform occasionally.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
In the beginning we will determine where you are as a musician and where you want to go. Then I will build a plan based on where you want to go. Each week we will review what we have previously covered, go over any questions or issues you came up with while you practiced and then move on to the next step in your plan.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
In your first lesson, if you already have some playing experience, I will ask you to play something you know for me. I will look carefully at your technique and timing. Also, I will ask you some basic music theory questions to asses your knowledge of theory. I will ask you to read charts, if you can and if you are comfortable with that, ask you to play the chart. I will also ask you to play me different types of scales.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
My ideal student is one who wants to learn. It's that simple. There is nothing more satisfying than having students who are enthusiastic about learning and want to improve. It doesn't matter how old you are or whether you are a beginner or a pro. Everyone can always improve and if you want to do that, then you are the right student for me.
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
Daytime during the week from 9 to 2 work really well for me. I know these times work best for adult students. I have students who are professionals in other fields and I do go their offices for lessons. Afternoon and night time lessons are available during the week but there will have to be some flexibility there, For example, I may be able to see you one week on Tuesday but the next week on Wednesday.
My influences are:
My influences vary from KISS and AC/DC in my early years to bands like Porcupine Tree currently. I don't think there are many guitarists that I have listened to over the years that haven't influenced me one way or the other. If I had to name some they would be: Gilmour, EVH, George Lynch, Angus, Frehly, Steven Wilson, Hendrix, Page, Vai, Tool, Beatles, Billy Gibbons and countless others.
Fee Schedule :
$25 for a half hour and $50 for an hour but I always go over by 5 to 10 minutes.
My cancellation/booking policy :
If you need to cancel, please give me at least a days notice.
Which methods of payment are accepted?
Cash, Checks, Money Orders
I have been teaching guitar for:
20 Year(s)
