My teaching approach :

Depending on Age of student i will teach what ever is most relevant to the students development. Young beginners, for example, must learn how to read music but adult beginners don't. For young students i like to use books as they keep the agenda clear and allow the student the option to dictate a faster pace(as i once did) if they are so inclined. I like to give lots of ear training as music is first and foremost a listening art. Finally i teach my students how to learn for them selves and encourage them to explore the fascinating world of music.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following

Lesson starts with student presenting the last lesson and submitting his/her home work assignment. We will then continue where we left off and typically finish with 15 min of ear training.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following

I start by assessing the students guitar, and playing it a little bit my self to let the student hear what it could sound like. I'll ask the student to show me what they know. 8 bars of anything and i will know all that i need to know about you.
