My teaching approach :
I've been teaching full time since 2005, and I can teach players of all ages and all levels, in most styles. I have also taught bass students as well as music theory and songwriting concepts. I've been playing guitar for 18 years, and I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies, which I completed at The University of the Arts in May of 2005. My teaching tools and resources include my own lessons and worksheets on various topics (available via Workshop Live!), a vast library of play-along backing tracks as well as tabs for hundreds of songs, and several preferred method books.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
There is no such thing as a "typical" lesson with me, because in my experience, each student has a unique learning style, as well as different goals and needs. In addition to teaching the fundamentals of music and pinpointing specific areas in which a student needs improvement, I do my best to craft each student's lesson experience to suit his or her personal goals, and if a student doesn't know what those are, I help them figure it out.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
If the student is an absolute beginner, no assessment is necessary; I'll teach correct posture, string names, how to tune, how to read a chord diagram, how to play at least 2 chords, and, if there's still time, the basics of strumming technique. If the student has playing experience, I'll ask him or her to play a song or a few riffs, anything to indicate chord or scale vocabulary, knowledge of theory, demonstration of proper technique, etc.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
My ideal student, regardless of age, style, or ability, has a genuine desire to learn and improve. This student shows up for lessons prepared, and asks questions often. This student knows that the more you put into lessons, the more you will get out of them. And, ideally, this student may even challenge *me* once in a while or teach me something I didn't know.
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
I'm available most days and times except for Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Contact me for more details.
My influences are:
John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Guthrie Govan, Ron Thal (Bumblefoot), Mattias Eklundh (Freak Kitchen), Frederik Thordendal (Meshuggah), Michael Romeo (Symphony X), Steve Vai, Jeff Beck, Allan Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, Brett Garsed, Christophe Godin, Kiko Loureiro, Jimi Hendrix, Nuno Bettencourt, Brian May, Paul Gilbert, Frank Zappa, and many more..
Fee Schedule :
I offer the first lesson free as a trial session. At the next lesson the student would pay for the remainder of the current month, and for every month going forward tuition is due *by the 1st* of the month. I charge $20 per half hour lesson, or $30 per hour.
My cancellation/booking policy :
24 hours notice must be given in order for a lesson to be rescheduled. No refunds are given for lessons. However, if I'm unavailable for a lesson, and we aren't able to reschedule it, I will issue a credit to be used toward the next monthly payment.
Which methods of payment are accepted?
Cash, Checks, Paypal
I have been teaching guitar for:
