My teaching approach :

While the experience I offer is grounded in hands-on playing, ultimately, what I want to help you develop is your ability to create your own music and be in tune with yourself. My teaching has always been about a lot more than learning where to put your fingers on the strings. Making music is based on a spirit you have about life. Everybody has it in them to play guitar and you get back what you put in. Working with me is a way for you to find your feel for the music and your voice as an artist. If I can help you achieve that, then the possibilities for your guitar playing will be limitless.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following

I want to get a sense of who you are and what you have in mind for yourself. So I might ask you about what kinds of music you listen to as well as how playing guitar fits into the grand scheme of your life. If you've had some experience playing already, then I'll probably ask you to play something for me. It could be a song or just some simple chords. From there, we might play something together and see where that takes us.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following

Working with me is ideal for guitarists at any stage of development who want to break out of the normalcy of life and let their creativity emerge. I don't want to teach you to be a good guitar student. I want to teach you what it is to be a musician and an artist. All you need to do is come in the door with an open mind, a sense of humility, a willingness to commit to the experience, and a hunger to make music.

I charge by the hour with a minimum of one session per week. Payment is made at the beginning of each session. Please call 212.721.2382 for more information.

My cancellation/booking policy :

The more you maintain a regular schedule of sessions, the more progress you'll make with your guitar playing. With that in mind, I try to provide flexibility for my students when I can. We can talk about the finer details when we meet in person.
