My teaching approach :
Having been a high school, elementary, and college music teacher there is one, most important, thing I have learned. There is no one proven method of teaching that guarantees success for every student. Knowing this I have developed countless teaching methods to help students through their various obstacles with learning. I have both a BFA and Masters Degree from the Purchase Conservatory of Music. I am kind hearted, responsible and very patient. I have taught hundreds of happy students in my life and can provide references upon request. I am also a professionally performing NYC guitarist.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
The student shows me her practice progress from the previous week. I help him with issues encountered in practice and answer questions. We take on a new goal. These goals will, of course, vary greatly from student to student. We develop a realistic plan for practice in the week to come. It is important to know that I do not give lesson times, ie 30min or 1hr. I teach until the student's mind is full. I take on fewer lessons a day for quality.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
First the student tells me their experience and guitar goals. If the student is not a complete beginner then I ask him to play me something. With my experience, I can tell quickly what level the student is playing at. From there we start to make a plan for making her guitar goals come true.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
One that is having fun and progressing at their desired pace.
