My teaching approach :
Every student learns differently. I try and figure that out first and we go from there. Sometimes we learn a song, then theory, or the other way around. I prefer teaching what I call the 20-20-20 method. 20 minutes of theory, 20 minutes of applying it to your instrument and 20 minutes of applying it in song. Most all my students are teenagers. I've many references including one from the youth pastor at the church I attend.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
REPETITION. This is how we learn on our instrument. I try and make it fun. I jump from topic to topic to keep the students attention but always staying on point. We do "brain breaks". Sometimes when we 'think too hard' we get stuck and we can't really get anywhere. So I'll ask, "What's your favorite kind of roller coaster?" They think for a few seconds, give me a response then I make them play what they just learned and they've got it. Amazing.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
I ask them simple questions like, "what's your favorite subject in school? What do you like to do in your free time? What bands do you listen to? What radio station do you listen to?" etc... I then go over the parts of the guitar and terms... 3rd finger, 4th fret, 5th string... We learn how to tune a guitar. I ask them to play me a song or two. This helps me figure out their chord/note transitions and technique.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
One who loves to learn and have fun. I understand that most people want to learn because it's cool and fun and they don't plan on making a living at it. But they enjoy it nonetheless. And that's what I'm going for... Pure Enjoyment. Playing music is a blast!
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
1 hour lessons 30 minutes if under the age of 10 Everyday is different, contact me to find out available times.
My influences are:
Dave Matthews Band, The Beatles, Jack Johnson, CCR, Led Zeppelin, Muddy Waters, The Funk Brothers, anything with a good groove.
Fee Schedule :
$35/hour $25/30 minutes... under the age of 10. $25/hour if you come to my house I ask the students/parents to pay for 4 weeks at a time. This way they get their time slot locked in. So... $140/month at your house. $100/month at my house.
My cancellation/booking policy :
Every cancellation is totally different. Typically if they can't reschedule within a week then they lose out. Sometimes I can go over the hour by 15/20 minutes to make up for it for the next 2 or 3 weeks.
Which methods of payment are accepted?
Cash, Checks, Paypal
I have been teaching guitar for:
10 Year(s)
