My teaching approach :

I've been playing fingerstyle and slide guitar for 40 years. The playing styles I teach are acoustic fingerstyle and primarily country blues, ragtime, Travis picking, and contemporary fingerstyle. I teach music theory and can teach you to read music and tablature.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following

My teaching methods involves multiple simultaneous threads. There is a skill thread which works on improving playing skills through exercises, a performance thread which involves working on a particular piece of music, and possibly a theory thread that discusses theoretical concepts for guitar like scales, chord theory, reading tablature, etc.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following

The introductory lesson is generally a "get to know you" lesson where you describe your musical background. I assess your interests and current skill level and we discuss what your goals are. Then I will propose a plan for future lessons.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following

A beginner to intermediate player who wants to learn to play fingerstyle guitar on an acoustic steel string or slide guitar on a resonator.

Weekends work best for me, but weekday evenings are also possible.

Fee Schedule :

My fee is $30 per hour and is paid at the time the lesson is given or by PayPal in advance.

My cancellation/booking policy :

Cancellation notice must be at least 24 hours in advance to avoid the lesson charge.
