My teaching approach :
Aloha! Having fun with your instrument and making practice time as exciting as possible is my main goal as a music teacher! I enjoy teaching material that not only emphasizes a variety of techniques but also focuses on the genres and specific musical artists that inspire the student. All this takes place in a quiet, relaxed, comfortable learning environment. I'm also a proficient Ukulele teacher. :)
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
My average lesson begins with review of material from the previous week's session, answering any questions and correcting any incorrect technique habits. I always introduce something new with every lesson; whether it be a theoretical or technique practice or a new song, but typically I find material that succeeds in combining the two. The lesson is then summarized with a quick review and practice outline.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
The very first lesson is just as much a learning process for me as it is the student. I'm curious about any and all of their musical background, and their specific tastes and interests. In addition to assessing their knowledge of the fretboard and guitar basics, my most common question is "What do you want to play?" In general, what are your goals with this instrument? Cover songs? Songwriting? Improvisation? Performance?
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
Ideally, my students will put their hands on their guitar everyday. I know an hour of daily practice isn't always convenient, but even if it's only 5 minutes it all adds up quickly!
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
My availability is pretty flexible. My primary teaching days are Mon-Fri around 10am to 5pm. However, if you are on vacation I understand how difficult scheduling can be and I'm willing to make adjustments.
My influences are:
In my youth I was inspired by composers like Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart. I found their music wonderfully exciting to play on the classical fingerstyle guitar. In my adolescence I began to play with musicians in band scenarios, but more recently I've been inspired by solo songwriters like Dave Mathews, John Lennon, and Bob Marley.
Fee Schedule :
My rate is $30 an hour and I offer a Kama'aina rate of $95 a month.
My cancellation/booking policy :
I'm usually available to book lessons within 24 hours. Any cancellation or rescheduling must also be done within 24 hours or I will still have to charge the appropriate rate.
Which methods of payment are accepted?
Checks, Cash
