My teaching approach :
New students get started on day one learning how to make chords and play songs. Music theory is part of the learning and provides a solid foundation for the guitarist to be. I have been teaching students how to play songs on the guitar since 1978, I have played professionally since 1977; I have performed on Radio and TV. I have played Clubs from California to Texas. Now I enjoy teaching full time.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
I play songs with my students using three chords that they learn on the first lesson; I use an electronic drum machine so the student will learn to keep time, the songs we play are played slowly at first when you are making music you stay excited and anxious to learn more. Music theory is taught as we go (it's Fun)
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
I find out what the student knows, and then we get started. The student learns right away the names of the guitar parts, string names, how to hold the guitar and learns three cords, then the student learns to play a basic song using these three chords. This is the first lesson and takes 45 min to an hour. Then Q&A time. When the student leaves this lesson he or she is so encouraged because they know they can do this.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
Wants to play ASAP Loves the Guitar, Loves music and likes to entertain folks and gets plenty of encouragement
