My guitar lessons take place in:
The teacher's studio or the student's home
Teaching area :
I teach in central Connecticut, towns near Hartford as well as in Northeastern Connecticut.
Instrument Type:
Acoustic guitar, Classical guitar
Music Styles
Folk Guitar, Country Guitar, Classical Guitar
Guitar Techniques:
Rhythm guitar, Fingerstyle, Performance, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises
Levels taught :
Beginner, Intermediate
My teaching approach :
I teach the basics of acoustic guitar along with the techniques used in Classical guitar. I think it's important for students to have a basic knowledge of acoustic guitar. Once the basics of acoustic guitar are established, students will become more educated in the classical guitar technique. Learning how to read notes and music theory will be taught from the very beginning.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
For an absolute beginner, the first lesson would be learning the first three notes on the high-E string and week by week the student will learn more notes. If the student already has a basic knowledge of guitar but does not know how to read notes, learning how to read notes will be taught as well as other techniques the student may be unfamiliar with.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
If they are an absolute beginner, the first thing I teach them is the first three notes on the high-E string. If they understand this in the first lesson, I consider this a success for the future. If the student already has a basic knowledge of the guitar I first see if the student can read notes. Second, I see if the student knows the names of the chords he is playing and whether he understands why the chords are called as such.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
A guitar student that practices thirty to sixty minutes a day and wants to learn how to read notes. A student that pays attention to their hand position. With these three things, a student is guaranteed to succeed.
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
Saturdays and Sundays are very good for me. Tuesdays after 11am are good as well as friday evenings. Im finishing one last semester at the Hartt School of music so during the week I have classes but if these times do not work out, Im sure I could find a time that will work out during the school week.
My influences are:
Andres Segovia, John Williams, Ana Vidovik, various guitarists of country music, music of the Beatles, Johann Sebastian Bach.
Fee Schedule :
I charge 15 dollars for a half hour- which is what I recommend for students under the age of 8 Otherwise is 20 dollars for 45 minutes and 25 dollars for an hour
My cancellation/booking policy :
24 hour cancellation policy. If i do not get 24 hours notice before a lesson occurs about a cancellation, client may be subject to the full cost of a lesson.
