My teaching approach :

I believe that guitar lessons should be student focused & fun. I strive to help students build a sound musical foundation from which they may reach their own goals. At the heart of my teaching philosophy is this axiom: Motivation is foremost in education- and with the proper attitude a student can overcome almost any obstacle.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following

Students use a notebook to keep up with their goals and all the elements necessary to accomplish them such as songs, chords, scales, and exercises. Each week we evaluate our progress and redirect if necessary (these are your goals after all)

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following

All students begin by listing songs, artists, and styles that they are interested in. From there we develop a list of goals that are unique to that student such as: strumming & singing taylor swift songs, improvising jazz or blues solos, or playing fingerstyle arrangements of your favorite Beatles songs. Finally, we develop a plan to achieve those goals and we begin working

My influences are:

I grew up here in Greenville and began playing guitar at the age of 11. Since then I have studied jazz, classical, rock and flamenco guitar. I am a graduate of the Greenville Fine Arts Center, the SC Governor's School of the Arts. I hold a Bachelors degree in jazz guitar performance from the College of Charleston and I am nearing completion of a masters degree at Converse College.

Fee Schedule :

My rate is $30 per each weekly 45 min lesson. I collect on the last lesson of each month for the ensuing month of lessons. Lessons are month to month.

My cancellation/booking policy :

We will of course meet at your house and for obvious reasons there must be an adult home for the duration of the lesson. For the session please have spot ready with two chairs that is free of distraction. Access to a computer or ipod and printer is ideal because we will often use the internet to look up and listen to songs.
