My teaching approach :

I teach all skill levels, all styles and all ages. Every student is an individual with specific goals and needs. Through the enrichment of music education I help the student realize their potential and create joy and confidence in their lives. Humans are equipped to learn new skills prodigiously from birth to death and this is what sets us apart from other forms of life. Learning new skills that are not genetically programed is the most human of all activities. I teach guitar, bass, mandolin, piano, banjo, voice, drums, ukulele and violin. A guitar lesson with me might entail the following

My students study everything including the basics, specific repertoire, advanced theory and harmony and technique. I create a fun, productive environment that enhances and accelerates my students ability to learn and progress. Students often bring recordings of songs they wish to learn and I create coursework for them to develop the technique necessary for them to learn to perform their favorite music. My students have an enjoyable experience.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following

If a student is a beginner their first lesson is about helping them learn to get comfortable with holding the instrument properly and having good positions for their hands and fingers. Often students will begin working on the basics in their first lesson which is highly encouraging and motivating for them. Students that have experience demonstrate their skills and I make my assessment. My pro students know what they want help from me with.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following

All people interested in enriching their lives through the joyful experience of learning to play a musical instrument. I enjoy helping people from beginners to professionals learn to create music and express themselves in any way they desire. Anyone can learn the art of playing music and it is a fundamentally human activity we all should participate in. I truly enjoy helping others experience the creative process of playing their music.

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

Monday - Thursday from 2pm until 9pm or later and Saturdays from 9am until 3pm or later.

My influences are:

All music influences me. Music is everywhere and I listen to anything that speaks to me. Great art can come from any style of music including rock, blues, classical, jazz, bluegrass, r&b, funk, metal, fusion, country etc. Music that is played with passion and integrity is what I respond to.

Fee Schedule :

Lessons are $25 per half hour.

My cancellation/booking policy :

Cancellation must be given with 24 hours notice. I always offer to reschedule at the earliest possible availability of both the teacher and the student.
