My teaching approach :
Each lesson prepares the student to perform with confidence and clarity. Fundamental skills such proper posture, holding the instrument correctly, projection and articulation make the difference between a good performance and and bad performance in every style of music. Why say to your friends," I used to take guitar lessons."? Instead you will be able to pick up the instrument and play. Simple tunes played well at first. More difficult material, played well, later.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
Each lesson is built upon all previous lessons. In every lesson a new, simple idea is introduced which will further the student's skills. For students who come to each lesson having mastered the previous lesson, no review is needed.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
In the introductory lesson, I seek to find the students musical goals; styles that interest the student. At the same time, I explain that all styles of playing require a common set of fundamental skills. Self taught players have usually developed a number of faulty habits that limit their ability to progress. I help them correct these faults.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
The ideal student is intent upon learning to play and demonstrates it by practicing as much as possible with careful attention to detail. Good players know that there is no difference between practice and lesson, or between rehearsal and performance. The musician who enjoys all these aspects equally will become a competent player in time.
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
Lessons are available Monday through Thursday evenings and during the day by appointment.
My influences are:
Every competent musician I have every heard, some of whom are well known, most of whom are not. Hero worship among guitar students and most especially among rock guitarists is a dead end street. I hope students will listen with open ears to every style of music they hear. Time spent listening to recordings is time wasted not practicing. time spent listening to live music is well spent.
Fee Schedule :
Lessons are an astounding $13.00 per half hour. I offer two free introductory lessons to those who request them. I have provided gig for a few of my best students which have more than offset their lesson costs.
My cancellation/booking policy :
Students schedule lessons by the month and are expected to attend each lesson well prepared. Lessons may be rescheduled if the student calls me 24 hours in advance. Lessons can be canceled without charge for true emergencies.
Which methods of payment are accepted?
Checks, Cash
I have been teaching guitar for:
