My teaching approach :
I started playing guitar over twenty years ago. I've taught private lessons off and on thoughout the years, mostly during or immediately after my college years. I was a music education major at Southwestern Community College and at University of Northern Iowa, where I functionally learned to play and teach other instruments besides my major instrument, which was trumpet. I've played in jazz bands, jazz combos, rock bands, blues bands, country bands, as well as the concert bands and orchestras.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
My lessons typically consist students working on assigned materials, either from a book or exercises that I come up with, depending on the student's level, proficiency, and understanding, as well as maintaining the basics of the instrument, such as posture, hand position, grip, whatever.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
The first lesson normally involves trying to get a feel for the student's experience, aptitude, and interests. We would run through some basic fundamentals of handling the instrument and play some simple exercises.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
The ideal guitar student is the one who shows up consistently, who is not over involved in many activities at the same time, and who is willing to work or practice outside of lesson time.
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
Monday-Friday starting at 10:00am each day.
My influences are:
Stevie Ray Vaughn, Oteil Burbridge, Jaco Pastorius, Miles Davis, Chuck Mangione, Louie Armstrong, Jeff Healey, Terry Kath, Les Claypool, Peter Cetera, Jim Oatts, Susie Miget, Chris Duarte, Grant Geisman, Al Hirt, Herb Alpert, Dick Bauman, Phil Matson, Rocco Prestia
Fee Schedule :
$15 per half hour lesson. Pay for the whole month in advance. (usually about 4 lessons). This protects me and also discourages student absenteeism.
My cancellation/booking policy :
No refunds for missed lessons that have already been scheduled and paid for. Exception: teacher cancels However, if at the time of payment there will be known missed lessons for that month, then there will be no charge for those lessons. Missed lessons may also be rescheduled.
Which methods of payment are accepted?
Cash, Checks
