Guy Somers has taught over 600 students in 10 years. A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
I greet the student, briefly ask about their week and share my own, ask if they had any questions, frustrations or problems we need to solve, and then start in on the lesson plan from the weekly assignment sheet.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
Show them basics - how to hold the guitar & pick, the difference between strumming and picking, then we review the student's goals and discuss what it will take to reach them and develop a quick start game plan. I assess their playing ability (1) physically, (2) musically, (3) and as to their personal temperment and learning style.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
Someone who wants to be there, who loves music, learning and has the patience and dedication to practice.

Though a teacher, I consider myself a student of music, guitar and composition. I have studied almost every style there is and study annually with other great performers and teachers somewhere in the US.
