My teaching approach :
I'm an experienced performing musician specializing in drums, guitar, and bass. You'll learn how to play your instrument, how to read music, and how to appreciate the world of sound around you. I am a classically trained musician and like to make sure students know some of the theory, as well as being able to express themselves. Lessons can take place in my home studio, or I can travel to you. Lessons are catered to your needs and personal learning style.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
A typical lesson would start with scales and exercises. Then, depending on what the goals of the student were we would spend some time learning theory and how to read. The last part of the lesson will be practicing and being critiqued on a piece of music the student is working on. This includes learning how to apply the scales and theory to real situations.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
The first lesson will start off with me asking a series of questions. The main ones being the music you like and goals you may have as a musician. It is important to have the student play for me for a few minutes so I can access the current talent level. From there I can make a lesson plan with goals set out over the months of lessons.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
I'll teach any person of any age. All I ask for is focus and enthusiasm during lessons, and someone who is able to put in the appropriate practice over the week. A person with the idea of growing to be a professional should be practicing hours a day, and someone who just wants a hobby can practice for just minutes. However, I can't have a student come to me every week without picking up the guitar at all and expect to get good results.
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
Saturdays and Sundays include mornings and early afternoon. Monday through Friday include early afternoon to evening.
My influences are:
Muse, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Primus, The Beatles, Bob Marley, System of a Down, Eric Clapton, Black Sabbath, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Matishayu, Garaj Mahal, Billy Cobham, Buddy Rich, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten
