My teaching approach :
Most all music you've ever heard is based on a diatonic scale; 12 notes, woven into a seamless tapestry of inter-connectivity in which everything you hear or think is identifiable. Evolved music instruction involves taking the mystery out of music, and then teaching them to identify, in musical terms, what they are hearing or thinking. Therefore, the student becomes a creative musical force, rather than one who can play some songs.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
I teach a conservatory-based lesson program that is as musically intensive as one can get outside of a 4 year university conservatory. I do not teach music as a set of patterms or mechanical movements. I teach music, an then apply it to the guitar.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
The only thing I assess is if the student can recognize pitch. See above.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
My ideal student is an adult who has reached a ceiling to his creative abilities because he his limited in knowledge. My typical student is a weekend professional wanting to learn jazz, composing, theory, improvisation, tri-tone theory, etc.
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
M-F noon-10;pm
