My teaching approach :

I'm currently teaching beginning guitar classes at a middle school in Crozet. I like to start with the fundamentals, then generally gear the lessons to what the student wants to learn. I also have taught group songwriting classes for four years, and can assist any students interested in developing their craft.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following

Lessons begin with a refresher of what was covered the previous session. I then address any questions or issues the student has with the material and introduce any new techniques that are necessary. Lots of guided practice during our sessions.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following

I talk with the student about any past musical experience they have, and then introduce the basics: tuning, string names, and basic chords to start with, in addition to reading simple guitar tablature.

So long as the student is enthusiastic about learning guitar and is willing to put in the effort during the week when I'm not there, I would love to teach them!

My hours are flexible, but I usually teach weekdays in the hours after school (most of my lessons typically happen between 4 and 8).

Fee Schedule :

I charge $40 for 45-minute lessons and $50 for an hour. I typically receive payment at each lesson, though I will work with families if another pay schedule works better.

My cancellation/booking policy :

Let me know at least 1 day in advance if you need to cancel your lesson. I am currently developing my summer lesson schedule, and will require 1-2 weeks between a lesson request and our first meeting.
