Michael Zimmer guitar teacher / guitar instructor

My guitar lessons take place in:
The teacher's studio or the student's home
Teaching area :
Spartanburg, SC Upstate
Instrument Type:
Electric guitar
Music Styles
Jazz Guitar, Metal Guitar, Alternative Guitar, Rock Guitar, Blues Guitar, Folk Guitar
Guitar Techniques:
Recording and Production, Song Writing, Scales and Exercises, Music Theory, Jamming Skills, Improvisation, Performance, Vocal Accompaniment, Fingerstyle, Rhythm guitar, Lead guitar
Levels taught :
Pro, Intermediate, Advanced, Beginner
My teaching approach :
After selling my textile business in Spartanburg I dedicated all my time to study the guitar fretboard and came up with amazing results and a book in the works: Everything is interconnected on the fretboard....notes, chords, patterns...circle of 5th/4th..you name it, everything works together like a road map. If you are a beginner or advanced and got stuck somewhere on the fretboard road I will be able to open your eyes. I am not teaching a particular genre...once you understand my system you might come up with your own!
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
Here is what you get: 1) Build your diatonic key tones and chords in all 12 keys..no need to know all the note letters on the fret board in the beginning since this method works with numbers 1 to 7 2) Understand the chord relation and build chords with extensions in all 12 keys. 3) See the chords and play them all over the fret board ( 2 String intervals, 3 string with inversions or full ) No need for a chord bible. Make chords on the fly!
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
4) Understand two repeating finger patterns that work for soloing in all 12 keys. 5) Understand modes and apply them.....see why the only scary thing are the names of the modes ( Lydian, Ionian, Mixolydian, Dorian, Aeolian, Phrygian, Locrian ) 6) Understand the background and importance of the harmonic and melodic minor scales and why they will offer many interesting chord progressions for your own songs. 7) Understand the circle of 5th and 4th.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
8) Learn a lot of tricks to conquer the fret board along the way 9) Write your own songs by building workable chord progressions My ideal student has passion for guitar and music and is willing to notch up a step when it comes to finger exercise while at the same time is willing to concentrate and use the brain. Once the student understands there is fun with no end! Music theory related to guitar makes playing easy! My ideal student knows this.
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
I just relocated and therefore I have a lot of openings. I teach 7 days a week.
My influences are:
I like a lot of different music starting with Beatles, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Mozart...and a million more...music with brain is what I love. In the end I love my own style and you will too. I will not teach you cover songs from other bands because I will not waste your time. I will teach you in a way that you will have your own recipe to create music and write your own songs.
Fee Schedule :
I really think that in the beginning 2 hours per session provide the best learning process. Your brain plays a major role in my teaching. Allow it some time to to let things settle in. Therefore I will not do half hour sessions. But I will charge for an hour what other teachers charge for half an hour. 1 hour $25 2 hour $50 recommended In your home add $15 First 2 hour session is free!
My cancellation/booking policy :
If you need to cancel please let me know a day in advance.
Which methods of payment are accepted?
Cash, Checks
I have been teaching guitar for:
5 Year(s)
