My teaching approach :
I am a NH Certified Music Teacher. While I have been in Education for over 30 years, the last eight were dedicated soley to teaching music. I customize my approach to each individual students' needs, going as fast or as slow as the student is able. Furthermore, I can recommend several different guitar methods or use the students choice. I can also do restringing and adjustments/repairs on most guitars and often can provide instruments for sale as well. I love beginners of any age!
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
We usually start with a "check in" to see how the student has been doing in practice, then some warm-ups. Typically we review skills from the last lesson then introduce new concepts/skills and practice that. Then we would work on performance songs that the student is interested in learning.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
In the first lesson we first discuss the student's musical goals and experience. I then typically would examine the student's guitar, judge its playability/suitability and make recommendations for adjustments if needed. A brief introduction to parts of the guitar, music theory basics, and the first lesson would follow.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
My ideal guitar student would have an enthusiasm for learning and like to be challenged as well as a willingness to practice regularly. They should also have a decent-playing instrument.
