A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
Lessons are individually constructed around each student's level, ability and goals. I'll have students create a disc or list of songs they're interested in learning, and use these songs as a framework to teach technique, theory, composition, arranging and improvisation. I teach students the skills needed to learn to play songs, but will never flat-out "show" a student how to play a song.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
Introductory lessons are different for each student. One thing for certain is all students will learn to play something on the first lesson. The idea is to demystify the instrument, and show the student that no matter how difficult a song may be perceived to be, it is attainable,
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
The Ideal student is eager to learn and asks many questions during lessons. I may have an hour lesson completely planned out for a student, but if they ask "I saw this musician and she did this thing. How did she do that?" then I have no problem going off on that tangent. Students that ask questions almost always learn quickest.
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
Lessons are Monday through Thursday by appointment.
My influences are:
There are only 12 notes. Anyone who plays them well are an influence. For example, Miles Davis has influenced my guitar playing as much as Carlos Santana has influenced my horn playing. I'm a huge fan of Paul McCartney, Jaco Pastorius and James Jamerson, but in many ways Stevie Wonder is my favorite bassist, and he never touched the instrument.
Fee Schedule :
Lesson rates are $30 per hour $15 per hour. I encourage hour lessons. As a student, you get far more accomplished in one hour then two half hours. Students pay for the entire month on the last lesson of the previous month. The total depends on the number of scheduled lessons for that month (usually 4, but sometimes 3 or 5).
My cancellation/booking policy :
I'm a bit freer with cancellation policies than most studios. If a student needs to reschedule a lesson, please call as early as possible to reschedule. I don't mind coming in on an off time (if I'm available) to do a rescheduled lesson. But all rescheduled lessons must occur before the end of the month. Unused lessons will not carry over to the next month unless special arraignments are made.
Which methods of payment are accepted?
Cash, Checks
