My teaching approach :

I've been in several regional bands, recorded 2 original albums & various demos. While teaching at West Music, I've also developed & taught group guitar courses for Kirkwood Community College. Previously I've worked full time for Sam Ash & West Music. My influences include a strong background in classic rock, acoustic rock, 80s, and classical guitar. My method teaches sight reading, music theory, TAB, chord strumming, and improvisation, as well as learning the student's favorite songs. Each student progresses at own pace, and a heavy dose of fun & laughter are included free with each lesson!

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following

A typical lesson begins with the method book to work on sight reading & theory, then we move on to chord strumming, and we finish up with working on a song of the student's choice. Occasionally we'll take a lesson to talk about gear, or some other special topic.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following

The first lesson involves a lot of meet & greet, guitar care, and orientation of how the lessons work. A standard set of questions helps me gauge the student's musical experience, if any. If he/she has prior guitar experience, I ask to see a few chords, play a favorite song, etc.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following

An ideal student is one who WANTS to learn!

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

I teach all weeknights from 5-8 PM (last lesson scheduled at 7:30), and Saturdays until 5 PM (last lesson scheduled at 4:30). I also have lunchtime lessons available, convenient for working adults or homeschoolers.

My influences include Nancy Wilson of Heart; Jimmy Page; Stevie Ray Vaughan; Jimi Hendrix; 80s pop, punk & hair metal; singer-songwriters of the acoustic/folk 70s; classic rock; Southern rock; and some classical acoustic performers such as Christopher Parkening.

Fee Schedule :

Tuition is $88/month, due at the first lesson of each month. The tuition is monthly, and remains the same regardless of the student's attendance. If there happen to be 5 lessons in the month, there is no additional fee.

My cancellation/booking policy :

Cancelations by the student will not be refunded or made up. Cancelations by the instructor will be credited & the following month's tuition will be pro-rated. A phone call, text, or email is appreciated if the student needs to cancel.
