My teaching approach :
I am very thorough and conscientious when teaching the rudiments of music to young people. My students of all ages benefit from studying with a caring professional and experienced performer/instructor. I have performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the classical and jazz styles. My credits include orchestral guitarist for two broadway productions including Spamalot and The Last Five Years. In addition, I have performed for the Cultural House of Vileyka, Belarus (former Soviet Union), the Springfield Classical Guitar Society Concerts Series and many other venues and events.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
Troubleshooting technique, listening to music, studying various elements of music and getting a firm grip on what it takes to become a solid player.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
I make it clear to the student that he/she must be patient with him/herself. I ask them a number of questions regarding their interests, not only music, but also school, sports and life. I want the student to feel at ease. I try to get them to relax the hands and be open to learning new ideas such as reading music and improvisation.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
One who is glad to be at the lesson, interested in the material at hand, but also free to tell me about school, family, interests, etc.
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
Since I teach in Peoria Monday through Wednesday, I am available in the Bloomington/Normal area on Thursdays from 2--8:30; Fridays from 2--8:30 and Saturday from 9--5:30.
My influences are:
Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, The Edge, Randy Rhoads, Joe Pass, Bill Evans (piano), Miles Davis (trumpet), Julian Bream, David Russell, Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, the Assads, Charlie Parker (saxophone), Django Reinhart, Michael Hedges, Leo Kottke, Tommy Emmanuel, Leo Brouwer and many others.
Fee Schedule :
I charge $72 ( $18 per half hour) per month, which is due at the first lesson of each month. Most students take a thirty minute lesson. In the case of a regular hour lesson, the cost would be $144 per month.
My cancellation/booking policy :
Students are held accountable financially to only one month at a time. Make-ups are granted in rare instances. Instead, when a fifth lesson appears on the calendar during a given month, I do not charge extra.
