My teaching approach :
I am a professional classical guitarist with a jazz studies degree from C.C.R.I and a B.A. in music from Rhode Island College. I have experience teaching students of all ages and levels. I specialize in Classical and Jazz but enjoy teaching many other styles. Each student is gradually taught all the fundamentals of guitar in a methodical and fun manner. While building strong technique and good music skills, students also learn how to apply their skills to their favorite songs and pieces. Students can pursue any music style they are interested in.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following
Lessons vary depending on the students level and individual needs. Typically I will have the student warm up with scales to get in touch with the guitar before beginning. We will then work on sight reading and theory. The final part of the lesson is teaching the student's their favorite songs.
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following
During the introductory lesson I will show the student the parts of the guitar, work on proper posture/ technique, begin their method book and have them playing something before they leave their lessons. For student assessment I will ask them to play something for me so I can see their technique. If there are areas that need improvement, I will explain the importants of technique and guide the student in the ways he or she can improve.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following
I believe that everyone learns differently and therefore everyone develops at their own pace. Continuity is very important to a students success and motivation when learning an instrument. Students who come to lessons consistently and put in their best effort will succeed!
