I teach guitar to students based on their needs and expecations and expressed goals. I have been teaching for over twenty years.

The initial lesson would encompass discovering the goals and skill level (if any) of the student and getting going by learning SONGS. In my method, teaching songs is far more effective that teaching scales and modes that can bore students quickly. These advanced skills can always be pursued later by a student if he/she desires. 'Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for life.'

We will discuss their past experiences and the types of music and performers they enjoy. From their, anything is possible, depending upon the student and their goals.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following

An ideal guitar student is simply open-minded and willing to learn. Perfect practice is the key. If a student asks me how long it will take to reach certain playing ability levels, I always reply that the answer is inside of THEM. I learned to play simply because I HAD to.
